Ocular Ailments

Eye care is being dramatically improved every day. Using the latest technological advancement your eyecare specialists can treat and often cure optical diseases that used to be irreversible. Here are some common ailments and how the doctors at Meadowvale Optometry can help.

Cataracts
Over time your eyes may become impaired, cloudy and require surgery to clear. In a procedure that is one of the safest and most common in use today, the lens of the eye is replaced with an artificial one that will remove the cloudiness and can even be manufactured to act as bi-focal and tri-focal lenses as required by the patient.
Macular Degeneration
This is the most common cause of loss of vision for people over 50. It occurs when either a blood vessel in the eye bursts or some other debris becomes logged in the eye, blocking up to 80% of vision.  Laser surgery can help with any damaged blood vessels, while debris can be significantly reduced by the use of supplements and vitamins in the correct amounts.
Laser Surgery
If you suffer from astigmatism, farsightedness or nearsightedness, laser surgery can help. While the procedure isn’t for everybody, it has been in use in one way or another for over 30 years and can restore vision so that the use of glasses or contact lenses altogether are unnecessary.
Using the laser, the shape of your cornea can be changed by making a hairline incision into the lens of the eye. The resulting diagnostic creates a precise map of your eye allowing your vision to be totally restored to a sharp focus.
Glaucoma
This condition results when through age, peripheral vision is compromised through an excessive build up of fluid. Sadly most people report this condition to their optometrist after a permanent loss of vision has already occurred. This does not have to be the case. The optical nerve fibers can now be imaged and glaucoma can be treated before a permanent damage occurs.
